Both DTF transfers and screen printing make great apparel, but they win in different situations. Here's how to choose.
When DTF wins
- Full-color & photo designs — gradients and detail cost the same as a one-color print
- No minimums — order one piece or a thousand
- Mixed designs — combine many graphics on one gang sheet builder
- Fast turnaround — no screens to burn
When screen printing wins
- Very large runs of a simple 1–2 color design (lower cost per unit at scale)
- Ultra-soft hand on 100% cotton tees
Durability
Well-applied DTF holds up well wash after wash, especially on blends and synthetics. Screen printing can edge it out on cotton-heavy garments. With proper pressing and care, most users won't see a meaningful difference.
Bottom line
For small batches, full-color art, and flexibility, DTF is usually the better choice. Print shops can also unlock reseller pricing for volume. Start with a gang sheet builder or order transfers by size.
